Governor Adamu Confirms PDP Zoning Formula

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu has confirmed that there was a zoning arrangement in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the Presidency to rotate between the North and Southern parts of the country.

Governor Abdullahi Adamu made this clarification while fielding questions from journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his return from a foreign trip.

Adamu who said he was physically present at the meeting where the decision was taken advising politicians from the south to allow the North to have a shot at the presidency in 2007 in the spirit of fairness, justice and equity.

The governor also used the forum to dispel insinuations that he had traveled to the United Kingdom to launch his presidential campaign stating that it would be most stupid for any politician to launch his campaign outside the country where the elections were to be held. He said his trip out of the country was primarily to honour an invitation from the Nigeria Awareness Group in Switzerland to be the guest speaker at their annual conference.

Governor Adamu stated that while on the trip, he took time to perform the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia and attend the annual Royal Agricultural Show in London.

A national daily had reported earlier this week that Governor Adamu had traveled to London to launch his presidential campaign but had to call it off at the last minute after pressure from the national headquarters of the PDP.
