Governor Adamu Condoles British People over Bomb Attack

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

Governor Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa State has said the perpetuators of the London transport bombings, by resorting to evil methods, will certainly fail in the pursuit of whatever objectives they want to achieve. The Governor stated this during a visit to the British High Commission, Abuja, where he went to register his condolences over the bomb attacks.

In an emotion laden speech, Governor Adamu stated he felt a deep sense of sorrow over the news of the deaths of many innocent Londoners whose lives were untimely terminated by the terrorists. He said at times like this, the British people required the support and understanding of all peoples around the world. He was particularly pained by the bombings because the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair had done so much for the African continent and was at the verge of laying the continent’s problems before the G8 meetings when the bombings occurred.

A statement issued by the Governor’s Director of Communications, Dr. Samuel Jimba, stated that Governor Adamu used the occasion to deliver two letters of condolence to the High Commission for onward delivery to the British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. In the letters, Governor Adamu urged Her Majesty’s government and the people of Great Britain to take consolation in the incontrovertible fact that in human history, evil has always tried but has never triumphed over good. The fire of evil may burn fiercely but the waters of human goodness shall always overwhelm it.

The Governor’s delegation which was received on behalf of the High Commissioner by the First Secretary (Political) Mr. Mick Frost consisted of high ranking government officials. Responding to Governor Adamu’s address, Mr. Frost commended the Governor for coming personally to sympathise with the British people saying that his visit and the wonderful support of Nigerians was a relief in the face of terrorist attacks. He therefore promised to deliver the Governor’s condolence letters to the Monarch and Prime Minister.
