Year 2001 Fertilizer and Agro-chemicals Sales Season Launched in Nasarawa State

Governor Adamu cutting the tape to officially flag off the fertilizer salesThe Nasarawa State government has committed itself to the provision of agricultural inputs to farmers in the state. This declaration was made by Governor Adamu while launching the year 2001 fertilizer and agro-chemical sales season at Garaku, headquarters of Kokona local government area on Monday, May 21, 2001.

Governor Adamu stated that this year’s launching was the second in the life of the administration and thus shows a commitment to the improvement of the lot of farmers in the state. He noted that fertilizers were a veritable instrument for the realization of the government’s ideals of a better life for the people Nasarawa state.

For the present cropping season, government, Governor Adamu said, has released about 100 million Naira for the procurement and transportation of various brands of fertilizers and pesticides. To ensure that the inputs are affordable, government has decided to sell them at a 50% rebate.

Governor Adamu said government would soon launch a major agricultural programme in the state, but that in the interim, government has embarked on the establishment of a fertilizer blending plant to be located in Lafia as well as accessing farmers to bank loans and facilities. He took time to specially recognize the role of the womenfolk in agricultural production in the state.

Speaking earlier, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Luka Damishi stated that the procured fertilizer and Agro-chemicals had been distributed to all the local governments in the state and all efforts will be made to ensure that the products reach all the farmers.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, members of the state Executive Council, Local Government Chairmen, Traditional rulers and top government official.
