Nasarawa state is a microcosm of Nigeria

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has described Nasarawa State as a microcosm of Nigeria where every linguistic and ethnic group is represented. He has therefore called on all Nigerians to feel free to reside and invest in the state. These declarations were made by Governor Adamu while receiving members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) led by its Chairman, Justice Mohammed Mamman Nasir (Rtd.) on a visit to his office in Lafia.

Governor Adamu and Justice Mohammed Mamman NasirGovernor Adamu explained that the recent minor problems in the state can be considered as a disagreement within members of the same family and that this understanding led to the quick resolution of the crisis. He stated that under his leadership as the chief steward of Nasarawa State, every tribe in Northern Nigeria would be accepted to make the state his home. Governor Adamu traced the long history of association and marriage between many of the peoples of Northern Nigeria and said that the present divisions into states and local governments were just for administrative convenience and not meant to separate the people.

As a strongly united and purposeful people, Governor Adamu informed his audience that the people of Nasarawa state had resolved to put the problem behind them in order to face the issues of development. This resolve was even strengthened by the fact that the people had resolved not to allow their main economic activity – farming – to suffer as a result of the crisis. He stated that the whole people of Nasarawa were encouraged by the support of the whole North as represented by such a distinguished delegation that he was receiving in his office.

Some members of the ACF delegationLeader of the 9-member delegation, Justice Mohammed Mamman Nasir, had earlier stated that they were in Nasarawa state on a fact-finding mission and to commiserate with the people on the recent communal crisis in the southern senatorial district. He said that even though the crisis was part of the teething problems of development, such crises were a serious setback to the ideals of Northern unity. He therefore offered the delegations’ very sincere condolences to the state and the families of those who were bereaved as a result of the crisis.

Included in the delegation were Lt. General Jeremiah Useni (Rtd.), Mr. Tom Maiyaki, Mrs. Katherine Hoomkwap and Alhaji Adamu Bukachuwa.
