Nasarawa State Polytechnic will promote self-reliance

NASARAWA State Polytechnic Lafia, scheduled to take-off this Month is to be nurtured into an enviable institution that would graduate self-reliant Nigerians.
 
The State Governor, Alh. Abdullahi Adamu gave this assurance when he paid an unscheduled visit to the institution on Wednesday.
 
Governor Adamu’s visit to the institution was to enable him assess the level of preparation for the commencement of lectures at the institution.
 
Addressing the students, Governor Adamu expressed dissatisfaction with the preparations for the take-off of the institution.
 
He therefore directed that the lectures scheduled to commence on Friday 2nd February, 2001, should be postponed by one week. He said that his dream for the institution was a lofty one, saying the take-off of academic activities in the Polytechnic must begin on a proper note.
 
He promised that within the extended seven days, the state Government will ensure that all the basic requirements for effective lectures are provided.
 
Governor Adamu said that Nasarawa State was backward in the area of education when compared with other States, pointing out that the challenge before us is to make use of what we have to catch up with other States.
 
The Governor challenged both the pioneer students and staff of the institution to be prepared to make necessary sacrifices for rapid and proper development of the Polytechnic.
 
Governor Adamu urged the students to be law abiding and be prepared to assist in the practical construction of the school.
 
He said, in that way the students would avoid the culture of destruction of school properties, which he said, was a common practice when students in the country embarked on strike actions.
 
Governor Adamu told the students as “pioneers you cannot afford the luxury of destruction as an expression of liberty and freedom”.
 
Earlier on, the state Commissioner of Education, and the Provost of the Institution, Dr. Emmanuel Okpede and Mr. Mustapha Onuku respectively, had thanked the Governor for the visit.
 
They both said that the Governor’s visit would facilitate smooth and proper take-off of the institution.
 
Both the Commissioner and the Provost promised to play their roles to lay solid foundation for the development of the Polytechnic to an international standard.
