Nasarawa Students Pledge Support for Governor Adamu

Nasarawa state students studying at the University of Jos have pledge their support foe Governor Adamu and the policies of his administration. The students made this declaration while on a visit to Governor Adamu at Government House, Lafia.

Speaking through their leader, the students commended Governor Adamu for his humanistic policies and the giant strides already made in the area of education. They noted that Governor Adamu had transformed all the tertiary institutions in the state as well as paid their scholarships regularly.

The students pledged to mobilize all their colleagues to ensure the re-election of Governor Adamu as the Governor of the state during the 2003 elections. He condemned those self-styled critics who have been attacking Governor Adamu’s policies and pledged to ensure that nobody could penetrate their ranks during the elections.

Describing Governor Adamu as a role model, they announced that the student’s body had chosen Governor Adamu to receive an award of distinction in governance. This award will be conferred on Governor Adamu on the 12th of June, 2002 . They also used the occasion to show Governor Adamu a bus they had bought with their resources and said their presentation of the bus was a show of their commitment to transparency and accountability.

Responding, Governor Adamu commended the students’ shown of transparency and urged other students’ bodies to emulate them. He hoped that the bus they bought would help them fulfill their objectives. He therefore urged them to use their energies very well and in consonance with the ideals of the university where they were studying.

Governor Adamu pledged to continue to implement people oriented programmes and to ensure that the people of the state enjoyed the benefits of democracy.

The Commissioner of Education, Officials of the students union and top government official attended the ceremony.
