Governor Abdullahi Adamu has called on Nigerian youths to assist government in the fight against all forms of societal ills. The Governor made this call at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2001/2002 first tier corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Keffi.

Governor Adamu stated that even though democratic governments around the country had invested much resource, energy and capacity to improve the lot of the people, there was still evidence of poverty, moral decadence, drug abuse, cultism, robbery, child trafficking and other anti-social behaviour in the populace. He therefore urged the corpers, as members of the most enlightened and virile stratum of society, to deploy their intellect and resourcefulness to serve the people of Nigeria.

Reminding the corps members of the fact that Nigeria was still basically a rural society, Governor Adamu implored the corpers to lead the campaign against HIV/AIDS, environmental degradation and injustice. He charged them to be at the vanguard of the moral battle against corruption and other unpatriotic acts. He therefore assured them that those who excel in their service will adequately be rewarded by the state and wished them a most fulfilling time as they integrate with the society.

Speaking earlier, the state Director of the NYSC, Mrs. Philomena Imohe reported that 1266 corps member had been registered in the camp. She said that the camp activities were meant to prepare the corpers for a fulfilling life in the rural areas. She said that all the facilities in the camp were in good working condition and thanked all the Government agencies that assisted in bringing the camp to the expected standard.

The three-week orientation camp will be rounded up on the 28th of January 2002. Members of the executive council, high government officials and traditional rulers attended the ceremony.
