Governor Adamu Signs 2005 Appropriation Bill

The Nasarawa state government has established a due process unit in the ministry of budget and economic planning to monitor capital expenditure in the state. Governor Adamu announced this while signing the 2005 appropriation bill into law in Lafia.

The N26 billion budget which was tagged budget of appraisal contained an increase of over N1 billion over what was submitted to the parliament. The increase, which was at the instance of the executive branch of government, was to facilitate key development project across the state including the upgrading of the Lafia township stadium, construction of a law auditorium at the state university, amongst others.

Governor Adamu warned Permanent Secretaries in the state to ensure strict budgetary discipline, explaining that they will be held accountable for any financial lapses discovered in their ministries. He said any ministry that wants to commence capital projects must first of all obtain due process certification before the project could be considered for implementation.

Speaking while presenting the bill for assent, the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed Onawo Ogoshi said the budget received intense attention from the members of the House of Assembly and urged the state government to set up a budget monitoring and implementation committee to liaise with a similar one in the house to ensure compliance.
