Toto Community Pay Courtesy Call on Governor Adamu

Saturday, June 22, 2002

Communities in Toto Local Government Area, led by the newly inaugurated transition committee have paid a solidarity and courtesy visit on Governor Adamu. Leading the group was Hon. Tanko Kaura, Chairman, transition committee, who in message read at the occasion, commended the government of Governor Adamu for the large scale restructuring of the administrative machinery of the state recently undertaken.

[Image]Hon. Tanko Kaura stated that their visit was to congratulate Governor Adamu for making developmental marks all around the state and for making Toto local government much stronger, united and peaceful.

Hon. Tanko Kaura intimated the Governor that on assumption of office, they had been able to conclude the assets sharing process with the newly created Gadabuke local government and the local government can be said to have effectively taken off. In the same vain, Hon. Kaura stated that efforts are being intensified to reconcile the Bassa and Egbirra communities who have been torn apart by civil strife leading to the wholesome uprooting of the Bassa from their homes by the Egbirra. He reported that hopes are high for an early resolution of the crisis.

The activities of mischief-makers and enemies of progress did not escape the attention of the delegation. Their spokesman condemned in very strong terms the recent media attacks on Governor Adamu and said that the local government was resolute in ensuring that their antics did not succeed. Hon. Kaura saluted the courage and determination of Governor Adamu and urged him to ignore these renegades and continue in his emancipation works. Finally, he informed the Governor that Toto Local Government would support him fully, if and when he finally announced his intention to contest the Governorship elections in 2003.

He hoped and prayed that the efforts of the transition committee in reconciling the warring Bassa and Egbirra communities will succeed so that permanent peace can return to the local government. He said democracy cannot thrive in a situation of crisis and therefore advised the communities to bury the hatchet so that they could participate in the democratic process.

Governor Adamu assured the delegation that once peace was restored in their area, government would take appropriate steps to site developmental projects in the local government.

Prominent sons and daughters of the local government were in attendance at the courtesy call.
