PDP Holds Zonal Rally in Akwanga

Tuesday, July 02, 2002

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has held a zonal rally in Akwanga to gather support for the party and also to show solidarity with Governor Adamu’s administration. Bringing together the top wigs of politics in the zone, the rally was one of the best attended in recent times.

[Image]Speaking at the rally, Governor Adamu urged all party members to be steadfast in their support for the ruling party. He implored them to defend the ethos of democracy by ensuring that they came out in large numbers to participate in the forthcoming voter registration exercise. Stating that the state was grossly under-registered, the Governor urged the people to ensure that they took advantage of the opportunity granted them in this exercise to right the wrongs of the past.

Governor Adamu used the opportunity to inform the people that the PDP was the biggest party in the country and was therefore ready to accommodate all people. He said party members should be ready to work hard and show exemplary leadership in all their actions. The creation of new wards in the state, he said was meant to give opportunity to all to participate in governance and administration.

Speaking earlier, the state deputy governor, Prof. Onje Gye-wado informed the mammoth crowd that the zone had taken the decision to support the call for Governor Adamu to recontest the gubernatorial elections in 2003. He assured the Governor that he will receive one hundred percent support from the zone during the election and there was no turning back from the resolution.

Earlier, a large number of people from the rival ANPP led by Mr. I. N. Aboki decamped to the PDP. Leading his teaming supporters, Mr. Aboki said that the achievements of Governor Adamu were too glaring for anybody to be deluded into opposing him. He stated that his supporters had come to a rational decision that there was no use changing a winning team.

The rally was addressed by various party members and witnessed a huge turnout.
