Obasanjo Solidarity Forum meets in Nasarawa State

Saturday, July 06, 2002

A national meeting of the Obasanjo Solidarity Forum has been convened in Nasarawa state. Addressing the meeting in Lafia, Governor Adamu stated that he was personally gratified to publicly identify with the efforts of the OSF to win support for His Excellency President Olusegun Obasanjo’s re-election bid in 2003. Stating his reasons for giving this support, Governor Adamu said, "My support for a second term for Mr. President has never been frivolous or capricious. It has always been based on a clear-headed and rational analysis of the Nigerian situation and the President’s remarkable achievements in office. It is a position informed by my appreciation of His Excellency’s great success in providing this great nation, which was adrift and tossed about without direction, with visionary and purposeful leadership."[Image]

Assessing the democratic journey thus far, Governor Adamu noted that His Excellency Chief Obasanjo has, in the past three years, demonstrated a firm determination in fearlessly tackling each and every situation so as to ensure our people reap the dividends of democracy. The desire of the people of Nigeria to have him for a second term is therefore informed by the intention to ensure stability in the polity. According to the Governor, continuity will provide President Obasanjo with the opportunity to consolidate on the gains of his first term in office stating that wisdom dictates that you don’t throw away a winning team.

Speaking earlier, National Coordinator of the OSF, Barrister Anthony Akika stated that their resolve to support the re-election bid of President Obasanjo was based on the fact that as concerned citizens of Nigeria, they could not just fold their arms and watch while some misfits tried to drag the country adrift.

Barrister Akika stated that in three years of democracy, we have seen growth in little things: our schools being renovated, new ones being built, new water projects to supply potable water to the rural masses, primary health centers are everywhere, people are rebuilding the confidence they had lost. He went ahead to detail all the major infrastructural and superstructural projects of the Obasanjo Administration and concluded that it was only President Obasanjo who for now could carry the burdens of the nation, the hope and aspirations of the future.

The ceremony was chaired by the Hon. Minister of Information, who was represented by the state Deputy Governor and attended by members of the state executive council, delegates from the 36 states of the country and top politicians from across the country.
