Friday, September 13, 2002

[Image]Governor Abdullahi Adamu has stated that no nation can develop if it neglected its technological education. The Governor was speaking at the first matriculation ceremony of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic in Lafia. The Polytechnic, which was established by the Governor about 18 months ago, commenced classes over a year ago and is now in its second academic session.

Governor Adamu said he was delighted at the level of infrastructural development that has taken place in the institution since its establishment and praised the college management for these strides. Governor Adamu dwelt a great deal on the virtues of technological education and said that his administration was convinced that the state would stand to benefit if it invested in the area. He promised to ensure that the facilities provided in the institution were of high standard especially for the purposes of accrediting all the courses.[Image]

Turning his attention on the staff and students of the institution, Governor Adamu praised them for their pioneering role in the polytechnic and urged them to face their academic life with all seriousness. He urged them to make the state proud by unique technological innovations that will be the toast of the country and the world.

He said that at such ceremonies, freshmen and women were inducted into the institution where they pledged to be of good behaviour throughout their stay on the campus. He said in order to instill discipline in the students, a total number of 110 students who were found wanting in various areas had been expelled from the institution.

The matriculation ceremony also saw the polytechnic community presenting the Governor with a huge birthday cake in commemoration of his recently celebrated birthday.
