Voter Registration Flagged Off In Nasarawa State

Governor Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa State has flagged off the 2002 voter registration exercise in the state. The Governor performed the ceremony when he registered at the Government College Keffi registration unit in his locality. Governor Adamu who arrived the registration unit early in the morning patiently waited for his turn on the queue to be registered.

[Image]The voter registration is a national exercise in which the voter register is being revised for the forthcoming elections. All Nigerian adults aged 18 and above are scheduled to present themselves for registration in the exercise which will last 10 days.

Speaking after being registered, Governor Adamu urged all eligible citizens of the state to come out in their numbers to perform their civic responsibility. Governor Adamu stated that everybody should feel free to exercise his electoral franchise noting that democracy can only thrive if and when the people realized that they have a role to play in the polity.

[Image]Governor Adamu, who was not deterred by the heavy morning rain in Keffi, faithfully answered the questions posed to him by the registration officers. At the end of the exercise, he was handed his registration card which will enable him to vote in the 2003 elections.

Some members of the state executive council and top government house officials accompanied him to the registration unit.
