Speaking during the independence anniversary parade held at the college of agriculture grounds in Lafia, Governor Adamu paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of Nigeria and Nasarawa state, stating that their labour and sacrifices will not be forgotten. He expressed delighted at the progress being made by the country since the return of democracy 5 years ago commending President Olusegun Obasanjo for the strides Nigeria has achieved under his leadership.

In the same vein, Governor Adamu used the occasion to review his 5 years as governor of the state saying the state has achieved much in that period. He listed areas of progress as education, health, rural infrastructure, agriculture and electricity. He said government was committed to completing all the projects the administration started just as he was committed to ensuring that the economic foundation of the state was solidified.

The ceremony witnessed a match past by the Nigeria police, immigration, customs, nysc and various school children. All members of the state executive council, legislature, political and traditional rulers attended the ceremony.
