GTZ Officials Visit Governor Adamu

[Image]Officials of the German government Employment-oriented Private Sector Development (EOPSD) otherwise known as the GTZ, have paid an official visit to Governor Adamu. The visit was meant to strengthen relationships between the agency and the state government.

Addressing the officials, Governor Adamu commended the agency for the various projects it has handled in Nasarawa state. He was particularly delighted with the work of the agency in the Karu area where public sensitization was been undertaken on the viability of small-scale enterprises. Governor Adamu said that as a result of the work of the agency, small businessmen and market women were being accessed to funds to enable them expand their business. The Governor noted that the project holds enormous potential for transforming the economy of the area. Consequently, the state government was facilitating the establishment of a Karu chamber of commerce to assure ordered and proper growth of the business class in the area.

[Image]On the skills acquisition scheme, Governor Adamu said that four vocational training centers were being established and equipped. A common board was being established in consultation with all major stakeholders of the project to develop a specialized curriculum that will be of benefit to both the public and private sectors. He commended the agency for holding appreciation workshops for the major stakeholders in this project.

The recently organized Information Technology workshop for chief executive officers also drew the attention of Governor Adamu. He lamented the low computer literacy among government officials and said this was hindering efficiency and speed of service. He therefore said government was thinking of making computing literacy a condition for promotion in the civil service.

[Image]Governor Adamu commended the agency for the high level of confidence it has in the state government and assured that government will do everything possible to enhance their work in the state.

Speaking earlier, an official of the agency, Gabriele Noack-Spaeth said the GTZ was happy to work with Nasarawa state. She listed the projects the agency was undertaken in Nasarawa state as:

  • Appreciation Workshop for CEFE entrepreneurship training with economic stakeholders from organisations and institutions of the private as well as the public sector
  • Comprehensive needs assessment survey of relevant stakeholders
  • First stakeholder workshops on Business Development Services and Financial Services (In Abuja) and Skill Training (in Lafia)
  • Starting of the process of capacity building of one financial support institution (Save and Produce)
  • One week training in curricula development within the process of capacity building of skill training institutions
  • First meetings and analytical visit with the focus on advise and capacity building of a group of local agro allied producers (Rice Millers’ Association, Lafia
  • 2 days training of officials of Market Women Association, Nasarawa State chapter
  • one week competence building of state executives for economic promotion and on private sector development
  • Facilitation of conflict prevention process in Karu Local Government

The agency commended the Governor for providing the environment for them to operate in the state and promised to continue giving their expertise to enhance private sector development in the state.

Mr. Edwardo Canela, Information Technology Consultant, and two experts form Germany, Messers Karl Bruening and Peter Witthaut accompanied Gabriele Noack-Spaeth on the visit.
