Eggon Communities Pledge Support For Governor Adamu

Monday, December 02, 2002

[Image]A combination of all Eggon communities in Nasarawa state has pledged their support for the re-election bid of Governor Abdullahi Adamu. The communities which came under the aegis of the Eggon Development Association, made this declaration at a courtesy call on Governor Adamu at Lafia. In the words of their spokesmen, “let it be heard, clear and loud, that the Eggon people have will support the re-election of Governor Adamu”.

[Image] The communities whose representation cut across the three senatorial districts of the state came in large numbers to rubbish the rumors going round that the Eggon were interested in the Gubernatorial race. Much as they would not stop anybody from showing interest in the race, the made it abundantly clear that the Eggon were not sponsoring anybody for the race. As far as they were concerned, they had already made up their mind to support the re-election bid of Governor Adamu and there was no going back.

[Image] Addressing the unprecedented crowds that gathered at the Abacha Youth Center venue of the call, Governor Adamu said he was overwhelmed by the show of support by the Eggon people. He said he knew them as people who kept their word and was sure that they will deliver their votes for him during the forthcoming elections. He said the records of the administration spoke for it and they should make it a point of duty to ask anybody who was requesting for their vote what they had done for them. Governor Adamu assured the Eggons that as the largest single ethnic group in the state, nobody could administer the state without their support. He therefore urged them to continue supporting the administration as much as the administration will give them their due.

Community leaders, top politicians, government officials and prominent sons and daughters of Eggon attended the ceremony.
