Governor Adamu, at Federal University Akure, Honoured with a Doctorate Degree

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has been honoured with a Doctorate Degree in Engineering by the Federal University of Technology, Akure. The award which was conferred on Governor Adamu at the combined 15th and 16th convocation of the University at the weekend was in appreciation of the Governor's contribution to the field of science education in Nasarawa state.

Governor Adamu whose citation was read at the ceremony was honoured for revolutionizing the education sector in the state. He was cited as having established nine science secondary schools, three middle level tertiary institutions and a University which was biased to Information Technology education.Governor Adamu was also cited as uplifting the status of students in Nasarawa state.

In a speech at the convocation ceremony, Governor Adamu challenged the university system in Nigeria to raise up to the problems of underdevelopment. He said universities are established to solve societal problems and so Nigerian universities have to proffer solutions to the current unemployment problems facing Nigerian youths. He urged them to remodel their curriculum to ensure functionality in education.

Earlier on, Governor Adamu had laid the foundation stone of an academic office block which he is donating to the university as a means of alleviating their problems. At the ceremony, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Universities Commission announced that the Nasarawa state university came first in funding among state universities which were visited recently. He congratulated Governor Adamu for committing adequate funds to the development of the university and said that the Board of the universities commission would soon visit the governor to formally congratulate him for the feat and present a copy of the report to him.

This is the second honorary doctorate degree the governor will be receiving, having been decorated with an honourary degree by the Rivers State University Port-Harcourt.

A large delegation of well wishers accompanied the governor on the trip to Akure.
