Governor Adamu Wins PDP Governorship Primaries

Sunday, January 05, 2003

[Image]It was a sweet relief for Governor Adamu and his numerous supporters when it was announced that he had swept the votes at the just concluded PDP gubernatorial primaries in the state. Governor Adamu’s taste of victory was almost a fait accompli when two of his opponents failed to submit their nomination forms to contest the primaries. And so the field of play was open only to Governor Adamu and his opponent, Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Agbo. At the end of the special congress called to elect the PDP flag bearer in the state, Governor Adamu scored 183 votes to his opponents 1 vote with 2 votes declared invalid.

But for the fact that Governor Adamu was still mourning the loss of his dear mother, the Keffi country home of the Governor would have been thrown into a celebration. But even at that, emotions for most of his supporters could not be held back as they insisted on Governor Adamu coming out to celebrate the sweet victory with them.

And in a rare show of statesmanship, Governor Adamu for a few moments came out to rejoice with the tens of thousands of people who had gathered at his courtyards to thank them for the support and encouragement. When the crowds saw him, they all jumped up in jubilation and prayed that God will grant the PDP the victory in the gubernatorial elections coming up early in the New Year.

The primary elections which were held at the Federal Polytechnic campus in Nasarawa town were conducted by an electoral panel sent from the National headquarters of the party and was headed by Alhaji Saka Balogun, a frontline politician in Nigeria. The elections, which saw Governor Adamu coming tops, were held peacefully without any rancour. With this victory, Governor Adamu is now set to bear the flag of the PDP against other contestants for the Nasarawa Governorship elections, which if he wins, will give him a second tenure of four years.
