Religion must be a unifying factor

Sunday, February 16, 2003

[Image]Governor Abdullahi Adamu has urged Muslims in the state to make religion a unifying, rather than a divisive factor. He made this appeal while addressing members of the muslin ummah who came to Government House under the aegis of the Jamartul Nasir Islam (JNI) to pay him the traditional sallah homage.

Speaking further, Governor Adamu said that religion was a very fundamental aspect of human existence and should be treated with respect and reverence. Religious tolerance was therefore contingent on all, especially in a multi-religious state and country as ours. He thanked the Muslim ummah for the peace being experienced in the state and urged them to continue to live in harmony with other.

[Image]Governor Adamu used the occasion to assure the people that all the Muslim pilgrims from Nasarawa State who went on pilgrimage were hale and hearty and were not affected by the stampede that occurred in medina. He urged them to pray for their safe return back to Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, the emir of Lafia and chairman of the JNI in Nasarawa state, urged the Muslims to pray for the forthcoming elections and also to actively participate in the process. He called for religious tolerance amongst the people and assured Governor Adamu of their support always.
