Governor Adamu in Edo State, Opens Ogbe Hard Court Tennis Championships

[Image]Governor Abdullahi Adamu has paid a 2-day visit to Benin, the Edo State capital at the invitation of his colleague, Governor Lucky Igbinedion. Accompanied by state officials, Governor Adamu was received at the border by Governor Igbinedion, his deputy and top government officials from Edo state.

On arrival at the Edo state capital, Governor Adamu and his host were the guests of honour at the opening of the Arewa PDP branch office at Ward 8 in the ancient city. Speaking at the occasion, Governor Adamu urged all Northerners resident in Edo state to be law abiding and support the government towards meaningful development. He urged them to vote massively for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure the stability of our democracy.

[Image]Earlier, the Secretary of the Arewa group of the PDP pledged absolute loyalty and support for the Igbinedion Government. He thanked the governor for appointment some Northerners to various official positions and assured him of their support during the forthcoming elections.

In the evening of the first day, Governors Adamu and Igbinedion were special guests at the opening ceremony of the17th Ogbe Hard Court International Tennis Championships. The Championship which drew participants from 35 different countries is being sponsored by Guinness Nigeria Plc. The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium venue of the championships was filled to capacity as the Governors were treated to an exhibition match and a cultural display. Governor Adamu used the occasion to appeal for sports development in Nigeria. He commended Governor Igbinedion for restarting the championship after many years of dormancy. He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the championship to develop their sporting skills.

[Image]Governor Adamu on the second day of the visit paid an official courtesy call on the Government and People of Edo state. At the call, governor Adamu urged all Nigerians to ensure a smooth civilian-to-civilian transition in Nigeria. He commended the good hospitality of the people of Edo state and call on its citizens to support the government.

Highly placed government officials including commissioners and special advisers accompanied the Governor to Edo state.
