[Image]Nigeria’s President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo has visited Nasarawa State where he led the crème de la crème of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to launch the presidential and gubernatorial campaigns for the April 2003 elections in the state.

Speaking at the Rally held at the Lafia Township Stadium, Presidential Obasanjo solicited the support of the people in the forthcoming polls. The President urged all the people of Nasarawa to give him and Governor Adamu their unflinching support at the elections. He promised them that the PDP government would ensure the development of the state and the nation.

Speaking in the same vein, Governor Adamu urged the thousands of supporters who gathered at the stadium that the PDP was the only party that cared for their welfare. He said they should trust the welfarist programmes of the PDP as a foundation for economic prosperity.

The rally was a carnival of a sort, as traditional dancers and musicians blared their music to the admiration of all. Indeed President Obasanjo and Governor Adamu could not help it as they joined the party supporters in various dancing steps throughout the rally.

Party loyalist from across the nation and all local governments in the state were in attendance at the rally described as the biggest in Nasarawa state in recent times.

After the rally President Obasanjo held a private meeting with traditional rulers and elders from the state where he urged them to keep supporting Governor Adamu in his bid to develop the state. He told them that even though they should not participate in politics, they should be interested in the affairs of the state. He called on them to maintain the peace at all time and to ensure that they developed the state’s agricultural potential.

National officials of the PDP and some members of the Federal executive council accompanied the President to the state.
