Ekye, Doma and Jenkwe Local Councils Take Their Turn In Hosting Campaign Team

Thursday, April 10, 2003

More council areas in Nasarawa state have taken their turn in hosting the re-election campaign team of Governor Abdullahi Adamu. Those who took their turn on Wednesday, April 09, 2003 were Ekye, Doma and Jenkwe local government areas.

[Image]Commencing from Angbashim, the headquarters of Ekye local government area, the day began on a very receptive mode. The whole local government area virtually stood still when the team arrived the town. Men, women and children alike came out to join the celebration of excellence for which the Abdullahi Adamu administration is known. The rally in this local government was more of a victory celebration than a rally to seek the votes of the people. The crowd said the Governor should not say anything, they had already resolved to vote for him. Consequently, the only activity at this rally was voter education.

From every corner of the town, the people rushed to the rally venue when the re-election campaign team was sighted. Speakers at the rally included Senator Emmanuel Elayo (Turakin Keana) and Hon. Mathew Akwe Doma. They all urged the people to vote massively for the PDP and pledged their support for the re-election of Governor Abdullahi Adamu. By the time Governor Adamu took the stand to address the crowd, they had started the usual dancing and drumming. It took a while for the people to be calmed down before the Governor could address them. In the address, Governor Adamu urged the people to ensure total victory for all PDP candidates in the forth-coming elections and ensure that the elections were free and fair. He urged the youth to show a commitment to democracy be ensuring that the votes cast were properly recorded and safeguarded.

[Image]The last place of cal was Agyaragu, the headquarters of Jenkwe local government area. Situated on the Makurdi – Lafia road, the crowd that received the team was so huge that traffic was held up for up to thirty minutes. As in other places, the flag of the PDP was held high. Indeed this is one of the local councils that the party could be said to be comfortable. The reception was well organized and the people showed extreme love for Governor Adamu. In his address to them, the Governor said he was seeking re-election as a result of the call made on him by the people of Nasarawa state. He said he was thankful for the support hitherto given to him by the people of Jenkwe and assured them of a better deal during his second tenure.

As in all places visited during the tour, the Governor and his team visited the traditional rulers in all the areas. The deputy governor, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado; Minister of State (Justice), Musa Elayo and running mate Labaran Maku were part of the Governor’s delegation during the tour. The tour continues.
