Governor Adamu and Wife Cast Votes At Keffi Polling Center

Saturday, April 12, 2003

At exactly 1.05pm on Saturday, April 12, 2003, Governor Adamu cast his ballot as he participated in the elections for the National Assembly seats in Nasarawa state. Governor Adamu who arrived the Keffi Government College polling center in company of his wife Hajia Khadijat Abdullahi Adamu was attended to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who after accreditation, issued him with the prescribed two ballot papers – one for the House of Representatives seat and the other for the senatorial seat.

Hajia Khadijat Adamu voted immediately after her husband after she had also gone through the same accreditation process. After the voting process, the Nasarawa first family went round exchanging pleasantries with the people gathered at the polling center.

[Image]Speaking to pressmen immediately after voting, Governor Adamu expressed satisfaction with the electoral process and urged the people to feel free to vote for their preferred candidates. He advised INEC to look into the case of some potential voters who were disenfranchised as a result of computer errors. He identified the case of some senior government officials who were said to be underage and therefore not eligible to vote. Governor Adamu said aside these minor errors, the process could be said to be satisfactory. He advised Nigerians to be patient with the electoral body as it might take up to ten different elections to perfect the system. He sited the example of the United States which had some problems during their last elections and said that it would be foolhardy to expect an entirely perfect system so soon into Nigeria’s electoral practice. Governor Adamu was very optimistic that the process will be successful, just as he hoped his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party would win the elections.
