Governor Adamu Calls For Peaceful Elections

Friday, April 18, 2003

On the eve of the presidential and gubernatorial elections, Governor Abdullahi Adamu has made a statewide radio and television broadcast which centered on the need to maintain peace and order during the elections. Addressing the people of the state, Governor Adamu thanked them for the orderliness that prevailed during the national assembly elections, saying this had gone a long way to project the image of the state as one that was ready for democracy.

On the forthcoming election, Governor Adamu implored the people to come out massively and exercise their franchise, urging them to be vigilant and ensure peace in all communities. He hinted that those parties, which lost in the national assembly elections, might be desperate to win this time around and so the people should conduct themselves in such a way that the tenets of democracy will be upheld.

The Governor also called on all political parties to show a high sense of duty to the country by ensuring that their supporters conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the elections. He thanked the electoral body and police for the wonderful work they did, urging them to improve on any identified lapses.
