Tuesday, August 19, 2003

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has pledged his administration's commitment to ensure the total eradication of the wild polio virus in Nasarawa state. He gave the pledge while declaring open the Top Policy Makers Meeting of Zone "D" Unicef field office. Governor Adamu stated that in order to ensure this, Government has adopted a five-point development agenda to articulate the government's focus in this task. These focal points are child survival and early care; integrated growth and development, protection and participation, planning and communication and community development.

As a result of his administration's subscription to the lofty ideals of Unicef, Governor Adamu revealed that his administration in the past four years committed over forty-eight million Naira to the execution of various Unicef-assisted projects and programmes.

Turning to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Governor Adamu pledged that his administration would intensify media awareness campaigns with emphasis on preventive measures. Consequently, he said over 35 million Naira will be made available by the state and local governments towards sustaining Unicef programmes in the state.
