Agriculture is the Mainstay of Our Economy

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has pledged to make Agriculture the focus of his second four-year tenure. He stated this while on a courtesy call on the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Mallam Adamu Bello at Abuja. Governor Adamu stated that a large percentage of the Nasarawa state population was a rural one which depended on the agriculture to make their living. He therefore said any policy meant to improve the economic status of the people must be based on the improvement of agricultural practices.

In realization of this, Governor Adamu told the Minister and Directors who received him that his administration during the first tenure, established the Fertilizer blending plant in Lafia and the Sesame processing plant in Doma in order to add value the farming activities of the people. He said the government also guaranteed various loans worth over 10 million Naira from the Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank for the promotion of small and medium scale agricultural industries.

Governor Adamu used the occasion to thank officials of the ministry for the support given to Nasarawa state during various activities in his first tenure, especially agricultural shows which the Minister attended personally. He therefore called for a continuation of such cooperation between the state and the Federal Ministry of agriculture.

Responding, the Minister eulogized Governor Adamu for being one of the most outstanding Governors in Nigeria who needed to be totally supported by all and sundry. He said every Nigerian has watched the comportment of Governor Adamu and the Ministry was in no doubt that the state was blessed to have a leader like Governor Adamu. At this point the Minister asked all gathered to stand up and give Governor Adamu a standing ovation.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, all Directors in the Ministry and Some top government officials from Nasarawa state were in attendance at the courtesy call.
