Education Remains the Gateway and Key to National Development

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has stated that education remains the only viable solution to ignorance and the most potent panacea to servitude as well as the gateway to the future and the key to national development. He was speaking today at the public presentation of books and instructional materials donated by the United States Agency for International Development to the Nasarawa State government.

The occasion presented an opportunity for the Governor to chronicle some of his administrations achievements in the field of education. These include the rehabilitation of 1072 classrooms; construction of 290 new ones and provision of equipment in the schools worth well over 171 million Naira. This is in addition to the establishment of various secondary and tertiary institutions spread all around the state. 

The Governor also used the occasion to express the government’s gratitude to the United States government for choosing the state as one of the three to participate in the pilot stage of the programme. He noted that the total expenditure of the programme amounting to over $200m will go a long way to improving the literacy and numeracy capabilities of the children.

Speaking earlier, the USAID/Nigeria Mission Director, Ms Dawn Liberi said about 50,000 supplementary instructional materials were being supplied to about 110 primary schools in three local governments in the state. She said the materials are relevant of reading, writing and numeracy. In addition, 25 schools were receiving grants worth about N7.5million to rehabilitate and upgrade their facilities.

The deputy governor of the state as well as officials of the Nigeria mission of USAID attended the ceremony.
