Sunday, October 26, 2003

Governor Abdullahi Adamu has charged the Nasarawa State Civil Service to gear up to the challenges of the 21st century. He was speaking at the swearing-in of the just appointed Ag. Head of Civil Service in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Usman Dubagari at Government House, Lafia.

Governor Adamu stated that the new century was one that is characterized with response speed, transparency and accountability. The civil service must therefore be able to react to issues proactively in order to make decisions very relevant. He said policy decisions by the political administration in the state must be speedily implemented so that the voting populace may see the gains of democracy. The civil service must therefore be prepared at all times to compliment the political leaders so that both parties will bring about the much needed development in the state.

This concern, according to Governor Adamu was what informed the appointment of many career civil servants into the executive council and the huge resources been expended by government in the training and retraining of civil servants. He therefore charged the new Ag. Head of service to ensure speed of action, discipline and efficiency in the service.

At the same ceremony, the Governor inaugurated the technical committee on the Independent Hydro-electric power project to understudy the possibility to establishing a hydroelectric power project at the Farin Ruwa waterfalls. He used the occasion to lament the very unstable and insufficient nature of power from the national Electric Power Authority (NEPA), complaining that this was hindering the industrial development of Nasarawa state. Made up of technocrats, the committee is to submit its report in three weeks.
